The Westport River Watershed Alliance presented the 2022 Environmental Award To The Town of Westport Board of Health on March 26, 2023 at our Annual Meeting.
WRWA gave this award to the Westport Board of Health, in recognition of their leadership in the development of new septic regulations, specific to new construction, which will reduce the impact of new nitrogen pollution loads in the river. The Alliance commends the Board for developing and implementing regulations to limit the amount of nitrogen entering the River, which can restore and protect water quality and habitat. We applaud the Board of Health for considering both short term and long-term goals with the eventual result that nitrogen overloads from future growth and nitrogen from existing sources must be reduced.
