
Watershed Discovery Programs
Our summer Watershed Discovery Programs offer children the opportunity to learn science through play and exploration, have up-close encounters with local wildlife, make friendships, build self-confidence, and much more. Your enrollment also includes a free family membership to WRWA!
IMPORTANT: In order to have your space reserved, you must fill out the Medical Release/Pick-Up Form immediately before or after you register for a session. Once you purchase your session, you will receive a detailed email that includes required forms, physical and immunization details, and a link to this year's program policies and procedures that you should review. It includes pick-up/drop-off information, what to pack, dealing with emergencies, and more.


Beachcombers (NEW: Ages 5-6)

Beachcombers: July 5-7

W-F only, 9 am – 12 pm
This summer WRWA is offering its first summer drop off programs for children 5-6 years of age.
Beachcombers and will be based at the Westport family beach. Children will catch critters using hand nets, explore the beach for shells, play games, make crafts, and more.
Land Roamers is perfect for children who are not ready for waterfront programs or just love being out in nature exploring fields & forests, learning about animals, making art, playing games, gardening, and more. This session is being offered in partnership with the Westport Land Conservation Trust and will be based at their headquarters on Adamsville Rd.

Coastal Explorers (Ages 7-9)
July 10-14 and July 31-August 4
8:50 am – 1 pm
Investigate wildlife living in our coastal ecosystems in this hands-on, science day program. We’ll use a seine net to catch marine life, complete scavenger hunts, hike through the dunes, play nature games on the beach and create crafts from natural objects. Each week will have a unique theme and related activities.

River Edventurers (Ages 10-12)
July 24-28 and August 7-11
8:50 am – 1 pm
Head out on WRWA’s skiff to explore the Westport River by boat. We will tow a plankton net, pull up crab pots and observe osprey nests. Participants will also learn how photography is used as a scientific tool and will practice their skills using an underwater digital camera at the water’s edge.

Watershed Explorers (Ages 13-16)
July 17-21

If your teen is an outdoor enthusiast, this program is for them! We will explore the Westport River and its watershed through upland hikes, kayaking and paddle boarding, and through the lens of digital cameras and tablets. Three days will be spent on the river with Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures.
