Planned Giving

Join Us in Protecting the Westport River

Each year, the Westport River Watershed Alliance community comes together to support our Annual Fund, which helps keep our work vibrant and vital all year long. With your generosity, we’re able to safeguard the health of the Westport River, offer science-based environmental education to local students, conduct critical water testing and research, and advocate for the natural beauty and ecological integrity of our watershed.

Your renewed support empowers WRWA to remain responsive and forward-thinking, advancing programs that educate, inspire, and engage — from school-based science curricula and summer programs to public talks, stewardship events, and habitat restoration projects. Thank you for helping us protect what makes Westport unique and beautiful.

THE HEADWATERS SOCIETY

Our most committed donors — those who contribute $1,000 or more annually — are recognized as members of the Headwaters Society. Members enjoy exclusive benefits and opportunities to connect more deeply with WRWA’s mission, staff, and special events. Headwaters Society donors provide the core funding that allows us to lead with impact and ensure the long-term health of our watershed through education, science, and advocacy.

THE EVERGREEN LEGACY SOCIETY

The Evergreen Legacy Society honors individuals who include the Westport River Watershed Alliance in their estate plans, helping to ensure that our work continues for generations to come. Just as the roots of trees support life in the watershed, these forward-looking gifts support the enduring vitality of WRWA.
What Will Your Legacy Be?

Planned giving offers a powerful way to align your charitable goals with long-term financial planning. These gifts build our endowment and may offer lifetime tax benefits for donors. If you’ve already included WRWA in your will or estate plans, we’d love to know — your decision may inspire others to do the same.

Ways to Give

BEQUEST
Including WRWA in your will or trust is a simple and meaningful way to leave a legacy. You may choose to designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset.

IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER
If you’re 70½ or older, you can make tax-free charitable contributions directly from your IRA. These gifts count toward your required minimum distribution and offer tax advantages while supporting WRWA’s mission.

CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITIES
A charitable gift annuity allows you to support WRWA while receiving guaranteed lifetime income. You receive a partial tax deduction, and the remainder of your gift supports our programs into the future.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS (CRUT/CRAT)
By establishing a charitable remainder trust, you can make a significant gift to WRWA while retaining an income stream. These trusts offer flexibility and tax benefits while ensuring long-term support for watershed protection and education.

GIFTS OF SECURITIES
Donating appreciated stocks is a tax-efficient way to support WRWA. Avoid capital gains tax and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of your gift.

ENDOWMENT GIFTS
Endowment contributions help sustain WRWA for the long term. You may direct your endowment gift toward environmental education, science and monitoring, land preservation, or general operations. These funds ensure that WRWA continues to thrive and protect the Westport River for future generations.
