Westport River
Watershed Alliance
Working together to protect and preserve the Westport River watershed, now and for future generations.
A healthy watershed where people, wildlife and the river thrive.
What We Do
Meaningful Work
Science and Advocacy
We strive to provide the scientific basis for policies and actions to ensure clean water and a healthy watershed. We analyze, document, and communicate the results about the condition of the River and watershed to residents. Through our scientific efforts, we continue multiple collaborative programs of measuring water quality and protecting habitats and wildlife. We advocate for responsible solutions and best management practices with local, state and federal regulators who are making critical decisions for our environment.
Education
WRWA has been connecting students, teachers, and families to the Westport River for more than 40 years. Through a hands-on experiential learning approach, our environmental educators introduce you to all the watershed has to offer. Our programs provide the chance to experience the Westport River as a living classroom, whether you’re a child discovering the river for the first time, a life-long lover of the water, or a visitor with a few hours to spare.
Community Outreach
Westport River Watershed Alliance has been working to protect the Westport River and its watershed since 1976. We host several public events each year, including Electronics Recycling, our Winter Art Show, River Day, Summer Concert at Westport Rivers Vineyard, and our famous Summer Gala.
Our River Center at the Head of Westport opens its doors for entertaining and educational events for all ages twice a month throughout the seasons.

Who We Are
WRWA History
Since its inception in 1976, WRWA has grown from 15 members to over 1,500 members. Numerous projects have been developed over the years that promote education for all ages, perform scientific research and advocacy for environmental issues, and celebrate the watershed. Currently, WRWA’s major programs are: the Watershed Education Program in local schools, water quality monitoring, River News, and education programs. WRWA has
established itself as a leader in the environmental grassroots movement in New England, and is considered a role model for other communities.
Our planet is a place we call home, treat it like one.
