The Blue Revolution tells the story of the recent transformation of commercial fishing: an encouraging change from maximizing volume through unrestrained wild hunting to maximizing value through controlled harvesting and farming. River Day 2023 - The Wampanoag Experience. The Westport River Watershed Alliance (WRWA) partnered with the Westport Land Conservation Trust and Wampanoag Experience to host the burning of a mishoon, the traditional process for creating a dug-out canoe from a log. The mishoon burn took place in late May at the Westport Town Farm (a property managed by the Trustees), and was conducted 24/7 over a 7- day period by Native Wampanoag people. The public was invited to visit the burn and learn about Native traditions . When the mishoon was created, it became the centerpiece of the River Day festival, on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Head of the Westport River. Film by Alex Haggert / AC Production.
